HSBC Withdraw Their Safe Deposit Services In Manchester

HSBC has written to all their Safe Deposit customers in Manchester advising them that the bank is withdrawing their Safe Deposit facilities and that all existing license agreements to use these services will come to an end on 16th April 2015.

This decision has affected a large number of customers who used the Safe Deposit facilities at HSBC branches in St Ann’s Square and Oldham Road in Manchester.

The letter, sent by the Head of Personal Banking, Bruno Genovese, explained that this decision was taken as a result of a “product review” and gave customers just 30 days to attend the branch and remove their valuables.

To compensate customers for the short notice and inconvenience, HSBC have offered to refund customers for any fees paid for the current year.

The timing of this decision may have surprised many of HSBC’s Manchester customers but HSBC is just following in the footsteps of many of the other high street banks who have already shut down their Safe Deposit services.

Over the past few years, as the banks have retreated from the provision of Safe Deposit services, St James Safe Deposit has been pleased to welcome a large number of new customers who previously had Safe Deposit boxes at Barclays, Lloyds, Santander, Co-op and now HSBC.

As the oldest private safe deposit in the North of England, safe custody is at the heart of our business and we are confident that we provide our customers with the very best security in our city centre vaults.
