St James’ Safe Deposit is a privately operated business and was established in Manchester in 1912. it is the oldest independent safe deposit centre in the North of England.
The new Leeds branch occupies former bank vaults and is located at 2 Russell Street in the hear of the financial district. The vaults have been extensively modernised and are equipped with the latest security technology including remotely monitored CCTV. The branch will be open 7 days a week and is manned by highly trained staff and an external security company is retained to ensure round the clock protection.
St James’ has installed 1500 safe deposit boxes of variable sizes with rental prices starting from just £135 per annum. The service is confidential and private viewing rooms are provided. The company is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and complies with the 2007 anti-money laundering regulations.
Over the past 3 years, UK retail banks have been withdrawing their safe deposit services and this has left many customers looking for alternative storage solutions for their valuables, including gold and jewellery. St James’ provides an attractive alternative solution to the banks because it is an established business with a long trading history and an impeccable security record. St James’ is the only company in Leeds now offering safe deposit box rental to new customers.
Managing Diretor, Nigel Kay MBE, said ” I am very pleased that we have now opened a branch in Leeds. In Manchester over recent years, we have had an increasing number of Asian customers who have come to us from the Leeds/Bradford area. We are now able to offer them the opportunity of moving their accounts to our Leeds branch and to keep their valuables closer to home.”
On a historical note, the premises are situated in the basement of “Greek Street Chambers.” This is a historic Leeds city centre landmark, designed in the late 1890’s by Sir Alfred Waterhouse. Sir Alfred was also the architect of Manchester Town Hall and the Natural History Museum in London.
